A feature of our shop is a variety of beautifully
crafted "Sailor Valentines", which are three dimensional,
intricate shellwork designs usually involving a piece of scrimshaw
art work as a center of the design, and all mounted in a shadowbox
frame.
These pieces are recreations of shell art work brought home to
loved ones after a long voyage at sea by 19th century sailors. Also
featured are shell art mirrors, Nantucket basket and shell art centerpieces,
shell art trinket boxes, folk art decorated and hand grained painted
furniture. All of these pieces are handcrafted at the Sow's Ear
Farm workshop by the proprietors, Stephen and Laurie Hayes.
